What is Poshmark?

An online resale shop, focusing mostly on clothing. There is a wide variety of brands and condition of clothing for sale on this platform.

What Poshmark is good for

Items or brands that you know you love

Sometimes it can be hard to find what you’re looking for at a thrift store or regular store. I have found items at a thrift store then wanted additional pieces and was able to find them on Poshmark.

Poshmark is also great for certain brands that you love.

For example, there’s an athletic brand that I know always fits and I love the clothing.

On Poshmark, I know that if I get my size it is likely to be something I will get a lot of use out of.

Bridesmaid dresses

If you know the color and style of the brand of bridesmaid dress, always check Poshmark.

Most bridesmaids don’t usually want to keep their dresses and this is a great way for them to recoup some of the costs while saving you as a bridesmaid money.

I once found a bridesmaid dress that retailed for ~$250 for $75 on Poshmark. The hem had wear, but I was able to clean it up and resell the dress to completely recoup my cost!

Specific items

I love a specific brand of black cotton leggings. Poshmark had many of them when I was shopping for another pair and they were a fraction of the price as buying them new.

I personally don’t find Poshmark useful for just browsing, I prefer to do that in a physical store. However, you may find other great deals this way!

A Note on Used clothes

I know sometimes people feel weird about buying used clothes. I grew up shopping at thrift stores so it isn’t weird to me.

However, I definitely understand the hesitation. I still feel kinda gross whenever I go to the thrift store and almost always take a shower after.

Even new clothes are often tried on before. Or they go through the process of shipping and production without washing before it gets to you, so that also seems a bit dirty.

I just wash all of my clothes (used or new) as soon as I get them.

How Poshmark works

You can enter your size so that whenever you search, you will only see results in your sizes. If you want to look at other sizes, then you can always change the option to “All Sizes”.

You can comment on an item to find out more info from the seller. In my experience, most sellers are very quick to respond to comments.

When you “like” an item, the seller will often send you an offer. This will always include a discount on shipping.

How to Make offers with Poshmark

You can submit an offer to the seller, but you have to pay shipping ($7.97 at time of this writing).

When submitting an offer, please don’t low-ball. As someone who is very frugal, I totally understand the desire to get something for the cheapest price possible.

However, a lot of these sellers have costs they have to cover in packing the item and the item itself. No matter what, the item is likely much less than buying new.

Depending on the price of the item, I will offer $7-8 less, to compensate for shipping. If it’s a higher priced item, I may add a few dollars to that

Sellers can accept, reject, or counter your offer.

How to use Poshmark to save you money

Buying things on Poshmark is usually more expensive than thrift store prices.

However, the items are generally lightly worn and it’s much easier to find what you are specifically looking for.

1 – Search for the item you are looking for, whether it is a type of item (black athletic shorts) or a specific brand (Athleta)

2 – The default is the most recently shared items. However, I always sort by lowest price.

The first few items probably won’t be worthwhile, but I have found very reasonably priced items (or bundles of items) searching this way.

3 – Like the items you would actually consider buying.

4 – Always submit an offer to the seller! I think all offers I have submitted have been accepted.

5 – Wait up to a day before making a purchase to see if the sellers send you any offers. Sellers are usually pretty quick to send offers.

If a seller does not send out the item in a timely manner (I think 4 days) then Poshmark will give you the option to cancel your order.

Returns aren’t accepted on Poshmark unless the wrong item was sent to you or it is vastly different from the pictures shown.. They do not offer returns if you don’t like the way a garment fits.
